                       Picture

I chose this picture Becuase in the beginning of chapter ten they found a purse and it was wet soggy and ugly and that was the whole reason they went to the tenements so I think that this purse was very important to chapter 10-11.

Michelle Fuzz

This image is significant to the chapters 10-11 because Freak and Max find an ID in a storm drain and this is an image of a storm drain.

Connector:

Some connections I made between this reading and my own experiences, the wider world, and other texts or authors because I have always searched for my library card and in this chapter Freak and Max find an ID in a purse.  Also my father had a friend over when I was little and when I met him he was smoking, when Freak and Max find Loretta Lee she is smoking.  I can connect because my cousin Eddie has a Darth Vader costume and so does Freak. I can connect because on the Novelas my parents watch there is a group of poor and drunk people who are crazy and in the chapter I have read in Freak the Mighty those are the kind of people that live in the testaments.  They scare me. I have also seen people like that on the News and they usually get arrested. Another thing I can connect with is when I was little and I would go to my house in Mexico at night I would get nervous like Freak got nervous when he went to the testaments.

Roberto researcher

Roberto Orozco, 4/30/2014, Freak the Mighty, Chp. 10-11, Maggy.

I chose this picture of a Darth Vader costume because as they were retrieving a stolen purse Kevin equipped a Vader costume to allow him to camouflage in the night. They later then took the purse back to its rightful owner, Lorreta Lee.

Researcher.
Darth Vader.
Darth Vader is a science fictional character in the Star Wars movies whose majority of his body parts were exchanged for new mechanical ones after an accident that took place.
This is relevant to the text because Freak is fascinated by the idea of robotic objects. He also uses a costume as his camouflage in his latest quest.
This information was acquired from Wikipedia.

Biker Gangs.
Biker gangs are a group of bikers who usually (as stated in most films) cause a great deal of trouble.
This is relevant to the text because it is stated in chapter 11 that Iggy Lee is the leader of a gang of bikers.
This information was acquired from Wikipedia.

Adventuring artist

I chose this picture becuase in the beginning of chapter 9 it says that when freak says something it feels like the real thing and he put the example of a vine bridge and you feel like your falling

               Adventuring artist
I drew this picture because in the chapter  Max and freak went to visit a hospital and the whole time freak stayed in Max's shoulders.

Stotko33

I chose this picture to represent chapter 9 because the part where they said they were crossing a rickety bridge stood out to me. It did because they had so much imagination to imagine that and I also have a wild imagination like them.

Stellar Summarizer
"We walk of miles. Way beyond the pond and the playground and the school."(pg.49)
"'Does that mean they do experiments and stuff?'"(pg.50)
"'Inside the research building is a secret laboratory called The Experimental Bionics Unit.'"(pg.51)
"'Bionics,' Freak says.' That's the science of designing replacement for the human body.'"(pg.52)
"'Will it hurt?' I ask.' Getting your parts replaced?'"(pg.53)
"'Life is dangerous,' Freak says, and you can tell he's thought a lot about this. After a while he kicks me with his little feet and says,'Home.'"(pg.53)

In conclusion,  chapter 9 in Freak the Mighty was an invigorating chapter. First,  Max explains that they have a habit of going to do something and going on adventures. They go on one and Max said it felt like they walked for 100 miles. Finally when they got to the destination,  Freak showed Max the research center he goes to to be CAT scanned and blood sampled to be the first bionic engineered improved human. Max was worried about the pain Freak would go through to have his parts replaced. Freak just said," Pain is a state of mind." Lastly,  Max and Freak started home from their journey to the research center.

I chose this image of a building to represent The Research Medical Center. This relates to the story becausethis is the building that Freak lead Max to.

Chapter 9 Page 50
Q. What was the building that freak took max to called?
A. Medical Research Center

Chapter 9 Page 52
Q. What type of experiments do the medical research center do?
A. Biotics

Chapter 9 Page 48
Q. What is now a habit to Max?
A. Freak riding up on his shoulders

Chapter 9 Page 53
Q. What is Freaks responce for the topic of pain?
A. Pain is just a state of mind

Chapter 9
Q. What was your reponce to the secret Freak told Max?

Robotics.

I chose a picture of some robotic/artificial limbs because in chapter 9 Freak tells Max that he is being ".fitted" for a new body. Max doesn't seem to care actually if you look at his attitude when they first arrive, that is changed when Freak explains what is happening but Max still seems a little unconvinced.

I chose this picture as well because it shows that even though people mave have disabilities they still are able to live a happy life like Freak is in a Freak the Mighty.

Roberto Orozco: literary luminary, chapter 9.

Chapter 9 page 53
"They're fitting me for a bionic transplant, I'm going to be the first."
I chose this passage from the book because when I read it I was a little amazed that they would use a child  as their first project instead of an adult.

Chapter 9 page 48
"So out we go. It's a habit by now, Freak riding up high on my shoulders and using his little feet to steer me if inforget where we're going."
I chose this passage because most people would say "ooh look at that" if they saw Freak driving Max around like that, but I would see a helpless boy being assisted by someone who is way bigger that him and that I one of the good things that come with friendship. It makes me sad when I think of what is at the end of the book awaiting Max.

Camille

This image of a compass relates to "Freak the Mighty", Chapter 9, because when Freak, Kevin, brought out his compass, he told Max to go east and then he talked about some of the history about it.

Connector
Some connections I made between this reading and my own experiences, the wider world, and other texts or authors was when Freak, Kevin, had a compass. When I was younger, I used to play with a compass and instead of saying left and right, I would say west and east. Another connection I made was when Kevin, Freak, made Maxwell spit in his hand, then put his hand over his heart and swear to keep the secret because when some people ask me to keep a secret they will ask,"Pinky Promise?" And both of those are oaths that you won't distribute the personal information out to anybody. When Freak, Kevin, says,"Life is dangerous" it reminded me of a story on the news and there was an incident and one of the news casters said that life was dangerous as well. On the week of Christmas, my family went to go see Christmas lights and after we had been walking for a while my feet started to ache and in the story, Maxwell stated that his feet were beginning to get tired.

This is significant to chapter 9 because of the scene where Freak tells Max to promise by blood.

Kyla's Freak the Mighty

I chose this image to represent chapter 6 because Max put Freak on his shoulders and I think that was an important part of the book because Freak said that's how they became Freak the Mighty.

 Literary Luminary
 Ch. 6 pg. 28
"Fourth of July right? Everybody goes nuts. The dads are getting drunk and having their cookouts,  and the moms are trying to keep all the brats from blowing their precious little pinkies off with cherry bombs."
I chose this quote because it reminded me of my Fourth of July with my cherry bombs and my mom always saying " be careful." Once I almost hit my toe with one because I'm an idiot who was like 5 and I said I could do it (ya right).

 Ch. 6 Pg. 28
"That sure looks like a bottle of beer in his hand,  and he's got that same wacked by a hammer grin that dudes always get when they're drinking."
I chose this quote because it reminds me of the New Year's night I spent with my uncle and dad. On New Year's we watched the ball drop on TV and after that my uncle and dad started drinking Jack Daniel's whiskey and Crown Royal. They had that same look on their face when thay started.

Ch.6 Pg. 33
"Freak keeps on shouting the names of the chemicals and elements,  until the last spark dies in that scummy pond."
I chose this quote as a thought provoking quote because it makes me mad that he makes it a learning experience. One time there was this rude kid who wanted to just shout out everything that was obvious. It made me so mad that he wanted to act like that.

 Ch. 6 Pg. 30
"Tony D. Has his hands on his hips and his punkster pals are trying to get closer."
This is a meaningful quote because it shows he has a gang and they want to beat them up.
One time I accidentally bumped into this boy and he was ready for a fight but we didn't fight.

 Ch. 7 Pg. 37
"A gunky pond and the mud is really oozy and deep."
This quote is meaningful to my schema because once I tried to do something I knew I couldn't do but I lied to myself and said I could do it. One time I was at a work sight with my dad and it was muddy. I told myself I could jump across it so I got a running start and I made it about 1 foot in and I fell into the mud and couldn't get out till my dad helper me.

 Ch. 7 Pg. 37
"I hear this zinging sound and I just know that Blade is swinging a knife."
This quote relates to my schema because it always reminds me of my dad's brother. My dad's brother is a dangerous drinking man and he is a threat to anyone around him.

Michelle fuzz

This pictureis signifacant to the chapters 6-7 because it was during the fourth of July where there are fireworks.

Stellar Summarizer

In chapters 6-7 Max got to go to the Fourth of July fireworks with Freak. They both ran into Tony D. And his gang. Freak called him a cretin so Blade aka Tony D. threatens Freak. Luckily the cops are driving by so Blade and his gang run away. Freak and Max go to see the fireworks but since Freak is short and he can only see the feet and knees of people. Max decides to carry Freak on his shoulders. Freak is fascinated and entranced by the fireworks and he starts yelling out thing of what make the fireworks. After the show is over Max decides to go to get a drink. While he is walking Freak, who is still on Max's shoulders spots blade and his gang. Freak gives Max directions on where to go. They are surrounded by the gang now. Blade reaches for something in his pocket but Freak tells Max to move so that is what he does. They run into the pond and the gang finds them.  Freak orders Max to go into the pond, when he steps in  it is very muddy. When he is farther in the pond he hears Blade crying for help. The gang rushes to save blade they soon get him up. Freak then makes a shrill whistle and the cops yet again come to the rescue. Freak and Max are given cokes and blankets. The cops ask their names and Freak says "We're Freak the Mighty, that's who we are. We're nine feet tall, in case you haven't noticed."(pg 40)

Fireworks

I chose a picture of a fireworks display because when Freak and Max go to see the fireworks they encounter Tony D aka Blade and his gang. They then show their compatability and teamwork for real and for the first time.

Discussion Director. Roberto Orozco.

Chapter. 6-7

Q. Why do Grim and Gram not let Max go alone to the 4th of July until Freak went?
A. They don't want him to get into any trouble.

Q. Why does Tony D call Max and Freak "Hey you! Mutt and Jeff! Frankenstein and Igor!"?
A. He might be referring to Max being tall and Freak being short.

Q. Why doesn't Freak get "flipped out" when Max picks him up and places him on his shoulders?
A. Freak is used to being helped by people and Max is his friend.

Q. Why would people advise others to avoid Blade than stand up to him?
A. Rumor has it that he once almost killed a guy with a razor or because you have to face his gang as we'll.

Q. Why does Blade and his gang run when the officer arrives?
A. They don't wan't to be caught by him.

Q. Why do you think that the policeman brings up Max's dad, Kenny "Killer" Kane?
A. He might be amazed that the son of a murderer would "save" a crippled kid like Freak.

Q. Why might Freak like being "Freak the Mighty, slaying dragons and fools and walking high above the world"?
A. He enjoys being taller than others and not being crippled.

I chose this image because at the end of chapter 7 Tony D, Max, Kevin got stuck in a pond

Cretin

Firework wonder

I chose this picture because in chapter 6 and 7 it was talking about fireworks and Fourth of July. It is important to the story because freak couldn't see the fireworks  so Max has to lift him up and put him on his shoulders and then stuff happened and the cops asked for Max and freaks name and freak replied with " we're freak the mighty that's who we are we're nine feet tall incase you haven't noticed."

Topic of research

The topic of research is Fourth of July

Findings

Forth of July celebrates the Declaration of Independence. It is celebrated on July fourth and mostly involves fireworks and BBQs.

Relevance to text

I connect with this text because freak went onto Max shoulders because he couldn't see the fireworks on Fourth of July and freak said that he felt taller and said that he was 9ft tall. Well one Fourth of July we went to cosco to see fireworks but I couldn't see so my dad has put me on his shoulder and I felt taller and I told my dad that I was 10ft. Tall

In "Freak the Mighty" by Rodman Philbrick, the swamp image represents the scene of when Maxwell and Kevin, Freak, are running from Blade and his gang and then Freak tells Maxwell to go into the swamp. They go into the swamp and Maxwell gets stuck because of the stiff mud and slime so, Freak whistles for assistance and they get pulled out by a rope.

I chose this picture of a ornithopter because it was in the scene where the ornithopter was stuck in the tree and freak was trying to get it out and when Max gets it out freak teaches him about it

Word Wizard
 Ch. 3 pg. 13 Ornithopter

An ornithopter is defined as an experimental device propelled by flapping wings
"He sits down in the wagon and he goes, 'This is an ornithopter."

Michelle fuzz

This is an image of a wagon and it is significant to the story because Freak used it to try and grab the mechanical bird by stepping on the wagon.

Stellar Summarizer

In chapters 3-4 Max found Freak trying to grab a plastic thing out of a tree.  Freak crawled to his home and grabbed a wagon, he then stepped on it and tried again to grab the plastic thing.  So Max decides to help him. Up close it turns out that the plastic thing is a mechanical bird.  Max grabs and gives the bird to Freak.  They then fly the bird around.  Freak then asks where max lives, Max points to the basement.  Freak seemed to be confused so Max takes him to the down under a.k.a the basement.  It seems like a struggle but Freak makes it.  They have a conversation about robots but Max does not know what some words Freak uses.  They soon hear a worried voice, Freak identifies it as The Fair Gwen.  Max comes out with Freak following.  Gwen takes Freak home.  Max figures that The Fair Gwen is scared of him.

Kyla

I chose this picture of a fair queen to represent an image of The Fair Gwen in chapters 3 and 4 and because she was afraid of Max. I think that was an important detail because it probably shows that Max may not be able to hang out with Freak because his Mom is afraid of Max. Also she is a very important character and an icon I associate with those chapters.
